The Player:

Jackson is an athlete that doesn’t quite get the most out of his athleticism on the floor at this stage of the process. He’s more of a power athlete than a shifty one, and he’s a two-foot leaper which makes it tough for him to finish consistently in the halfcourt. Also at 6-foot-3, he’s just a small scoring guard rather than a point guard. Still, if he can harness that athleticism, and if he can continue to develop his game off the bounce, the jump shot is there already. There could be an extremely interesting player here for a team that utilizes large ball-handlers often.

The Fit:

Jackson would be an interesting long-term player type that the Magic currently do not have on their roster: a combo-y offensive guard that can get into the middle of the defense and shoot. Also, he’d represent an interesting upside play for a team that continues to search for them.

Finch’s Take

“Big question is his foot. He was a little too hell-bent on scoring and putting points on the board. You want to see if he can make good decisions on a consistent basis and get teammates involved. He had a great end of the year, but early on he was very up and down. Someone must have promised him he would go in the first round, but then he had this foot injury. He’s not a point guard in any way, shape or form. I don’t think he’s a great defender. He can make shots, but he’s an undersized for a combo. Should have stayed in school.”
